Olympics: Brazil rips China to secure
Marquinhos Veira Sousa scored a game-high 14 points to spark Brazil in a 98-59 rout of China on Saturday, clinching Olympic men's basketball medal playoff berths for the Brazilians and Spain.
Leandrinho Barbosa and Guilherme Giovannoni each scored 13 points for Brazil while Zhu Fangyu led China with 13 points. Anderson Varejao grabbed 13 rebounds for the South American side.
With Russia having secured the Group B crown by downing Spain earlier in the day, the Spain-Brazil game on Monday will be for second place in the group and a higher seeding for the playoffs.
But if the unbeaten US 'Dream Team' wins Group A as expected, the winner of the Spain-Brazil game is a possible semi-final foe for the Americans while the Spain-Brazil loser could not face the NBA stars until the final.
Brazil dominated from the start, opening a 25-9 lead after the opening quarter and stretched it to 42-21 at half-time.
