NBA: Morway resigns as Pacers GM
David Morway, who served as general manager of the Indiana Pacers for the past four seasons, has resigned from the post, the NBA club announced on Tuesday.
Morway was hired in 1999 as vice president of basketball administration and the following year the Pacers reached the NBA Finals for the first time, falling to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Morway oversaw a rebuilding plan for the Pacers over the past four years that saw them go 42-24 this past season and reach the second round of the NBA playoffs, losing to the eventual NBA champion Miami Heat.
"While I deeply care about this franchise, sometimes change is important for everyone concerned," Morway said. "I believe this is the right time to step away."
Former Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird, the Pacers president of basketball operations, will lead the search to replace him.
