The Copper Box has many distinctive design features, including a copper-clad roof, a glazed concourse offering views inside the venue from the Olympic Park and the 88 light pipes that have been built into the ceiling of the arena to help draw sunlight into the venue. After hosting the early rounds of the men's and women's handball competitions, it will be transformed into a venue for the fencing discipline of the Modern Pentathlon. Built with retractable seating to create a flexible space, the 7,000-capacity arena will remain in place after the Games and be adapted for community use as a sports centre.
