Avenido is one of the up-and-coming stars of the Philippines' taekwondo team and competes in the men's under 80 kilogram division.

A standout at university level, Avenido has also enjoyed success on the international stage having won a silver medal at the 2009 Southeast Asian Games and bronze at the Asian Championships in Astana the following year.

Born in Mindanao, Avenido took up taekwondo at the age of 11 and holds a degree in behavioural science. He is also a registered taekwondo instructor.

He won silver at the Asian Martial Arts Games in 2009 but lost at the quarter-final stage of the following year's Asian Games and in the last 32 at the 2011 World Taekwondo Championships.
