Highly-rated light-flyweight Mark Barriga is just beginning a journey that could lead to him becoming the next big Filipino boxing icon.
An AIBA Youth World Championships quarter-finalist, Barriga qualified for London 2012 as the youngest member of the Philippines team at last year's World Amateur Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The teenager defeated the Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Irishman Paddy Barnes, before losing in the last 16 to triple world champion and eventual winner Zou Shiming of China.
Barriga also triumphed at last year's Sydney Jackson Memorial Tournament in Uzbekistan, overcoming a number of well-regarded local fighters along the way.
