"In an effort to not disappoint devoted fans of the film, we decided to go ahead with the special screening scheduled tonight at the Grand Rex," a statement said.

The announcement came after Friday's French premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises" in another cinema was scrapped after a gunman killed 12 at a screening of the film in the United States.

The 24-year-old man clad in full body armour and a gas mask also wounded 58 when he opened fire early Friday at a cinema in Aurora, Colorado.

Film producers Warner Brothers had cancelled an appearance by the film's cast in Paris, Grand Rex management said, adding that a number of fans had decided not to attend the special Saturday screening.

A national release of the movie, the third and last in the Batman series, in France is set for July 25.
