Amy Chua aka Tiger Mum
Amy Chua rose to notoriety and gained a truckload of criticisms when she published her parenting memoir, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother in 2011. She recounts the strict regime she put her daughters through, banning television and sleepovers to have them study and practice the piano and violin for hours. Chua took a step back when her youngest daughter, Louisa, finally cracked and rebelled. Louisa had cut off her hair with a pair of scissors and threw a huge public fit in a café while arguing with her mother, smashing a glass in the process.
The tiger mum thankfully took a step back when she realized that she was close to destroying her relationship with her children. Both her daughters have come to her defense, with elder daughter Sophia saying they 'crack up at each other's jokes' and that their mum only included the negative experiences in the book. However jovial Amy Chua is with her daughters in her private life, her book remains a public discourse on extreme Asian parenting.
